Jan Arkless lives in Oxford, England, with her husband, Bill, and has four grown up children. Jan is a qualified teacher of Home Economics who taught in Secondary and Special schools before her husband's work took them to live in the Middle East during the Seventies. They lived in Iran (before the Revolution and the overthrow of the Shah), and then in Abu Dhabi, on the other side of the Gulf. Unable to teach cookery, and her time taken up with travelling backwards and forwards to England with her four children, Jan began writing as a career and pastime which could be indulged in whenever time was available. Her first article, about her elderly Siamese cat, Suki, was published in the magazine section of the Khalij Times, the Gulf English language newspaper. When the family returned to England in 1984, Jan decided that she preferred writing to teaching, and has since written several sucessful Right Way titles on cookery and weddings.
