Ralph Brammer

Ralph Brammer is a widowed father of four children - all of whom share his passion for football. Ralph didn't start playing football himself until he was 24,when he started playing regular weekend matches for different local teams. Although he had had no formal training and confesses to having "no left foot", Brammer played in over 500 matches between the ages of 24 and 38 and won lots of trophies in local divisions 4, 3, 2 and 1.

Over the years Ralph has helped to coach his sons and grandson in soccer from an early age, using one-to-one practice sessions in the home, garden and park. And to great success: his eldest son, Raymond, signed for Luton Town FC at the age of 15 and went on to play for clubs in Hong Kong and Holland, and his twins Mark and Ryan played with top local teams.

In recent years Ralph began coaching his eleven-year-old grandson in soccer and noticed a dramatic improvement in the child's performance - moving up from the Luton Borough ‘B' team to the ‘A' team and achieving the award for ‘Most Improved Player'. He says, "My daughter had previously paid for group coaching lessons and was amazed that Ryan could improve so much from one-to-one teaching . At this time I was studying how lots of other youngsters play, noticing the skills they lacked and beginning to make notes. I was carefully noting all the important points that kids and parents need to know - what I would want to know. I recapped on my many years of playing, the huge number of youth matches that I have watched over the years, and, before I knew it, it had turned into a book! Many parents would like to teach, or perhaps question their own child's capabilities, so my book is carefully written to give clear and precise guidelines for all young players and their personal ‘coach', no matter who they are."
